I wasn’t exactly tagged by anyone but I saw Savannah @ TheBookProphet did this tag, and it seemed interesting. It has been awhile since I did a tag, or posted anything really, and to prevent this blog from being a ghost town, I thought, why not.
I don’t think I’ve ever talked about my WIPs, other than during CampNanoWriMo (and only to my cabinmates), so this would be the perfect opportunity.
I am working on 3 WIPs, and those 3 are connected to one another. It’s actually a series of standalone (although past characters will certainly have cameos), and there’s going to be 6 books in the series. In this tag, I’m going to focus on my WIP entitled, The Lilydale Line, which kind of came to life in 2014 (although it has a different name back then).
– Thank the person who tagged you
– Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!) and link back to this post so she can find out allll about your WIPs!
– Try to limit the amount of gifs you use per question – I’d say maybe stick to five or less but I’m not the boss of you
Sum up your WIP in four gifs!
Main character is British Muslim (British father who converted to Islam & Malaysian Muslim mother), I guess it counts as #OwnVoices because MC’s family on mum’s side is Malay.
I hope to bring people on an emotional roller-coaster with this book. There’s going to be a shit ton of emotional stuff to get through, self-discovery, self-acceptance, and mending fences.
Time to introduce your main characters!
Caitlyn Hana Reilly
Main character. Half British (with a lil bit of Irish blood) and half Malay. Her features all came from her father, which is why people has a hard time believing she’s Muslim. Especially because she doesn’t wear the hijab. Introvert. Suffers anxiety and mild OCD. Divorced parents. Estranged relationship with her mum.
Aliyya Hafsa Binti Hamza
Full Malay, living in Melbourne. Caitlyn’s older half-sister. Shares the same mum as Caitlyn. Her mum remarried her dad after divorcing Caitlyn’s dad. Used to hate Caitlyn when she was younger. Has difficulty showing her true feelings so Caitlyn still thinks she hates Caitlyn. Always confident and bright on the outside.
5 years older than Caitlyn. Swedish. Somewhat a genius with photographic memory. Engineering student (Masters degree). Confident and laid-back. Goes to the same university as Caitlyn. Caitlyn’s possible love interest.
Okay, so when I first started drafting this, Caitlyn and Christoffer were meant to be in a relationship, BUT that was back in 2014. Now I’m not sure if I’m going to make them get together or leave them as good friends and make them get together in the next WIP.
How would your main character react in a crisis?
if it’s a fight or flight situation
And avoidance if there’s conflict
If you were to meet your main characters, how would you react?
And if you were to meet your antagonist?
First, the antagonist is a she. Second, I’m not sure if she’s even at an antagonist level yet.
Is there any romance in your WIP? How would you sum it up in gifs?
From strangers on the train, to friends, to lovers. At least, that was the original plan.
It might end up with no romance though. I haven’t decide yet.
How do other characters feel about this ship?
Caitlyn’s best friends and sister back in the UK:
How do you want people to react to reading your WIP?
I love it when I can make people laugh, squeal, and cry with my writing. While the first two are easier to do, making people cry is a little bit harder. So yeah, if people would react this way reading my book, then I’d be so happy.
Anyone who wants to do this 😀
So, do you think my WIP is something you’d consider reading?
Do you write? Have any WIP(s) you’re working on? Let me know!
