Top 5 Wednesday | Books You Will Never Read (31st Aug ’16)

Hey there~ I’m late…as usual. It has been so long since I’ve done this. Anyways, first of all, for those who doesn’t know:

Top 5 Wednesday is a discussion group made by Lainey on Goodreads.

Today’s (Well, not today today, since it was supposed to be last Wednesday) topic is books you will never read.

Twilight book series

When I was made aware of this book series a few years ago (almost a decade?), it was over-hyped, and then, the movie came out. Don’t get me wrong, at that time, I really love vampire books. I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and so grew up into a teenager who loves vampire books. But yeah, then, these books were over-hyped, everyone was talking about it in class, and the vampires sparkle! I kind of felt like I am betraying all that I love about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel books.

Divergent Trilogy + Four

I tried with this book. I watched the movie, and I didn’t really like it. But that’s more because I don’t really like watching book to movie movies since they change things. So anyways, after watching the movie, I thought I’d give the book a try. Perhaps I would like the book better than the movie. Besides, it’s YA dystopia, one of my favourite genre. I read half a page and ended up leaving the book on my desk for one year. Again, it was kind of over-hyped, and it’s more of my sister’s thing, so yeah. I don’t think I will ever read that again. Not that I’ve already read it, because half a page doesn’t count.

Hush Hush series

I bought the first book in 2010. I was still a teenager back then, and still love Vampire and Angel books. So, I bought Hush Hush. It was a meh read, and I didn’t buy Crescendo, Silence and Finale until recently. I thought I was going to read them because I’ve read Hush Hush and I didn’t like not finishing something I started, but then, I just lost interest. Besides, the first book was just meh to begin with, so I never did reread it. That’s why I will never read the second, third and final books in the Hush Hush series.

Halo Series

I bought these when I was eighteen, and still pretty much in love with Angel books. At that point in my life, I have no knowledge of Goodreads (I know, that’s just sad). Anyways, I bought these books, but I left it on my shelf for years because I decided to read other books first. When I decided I want to read these books last year, I went to Goodreads, and read some reviews. That pretty much made me not want to read these books anymore. I mean, one or two or three negative reviews, that’s still okay, whatever, you don’t influence me. But when there are more than that, and they tagged the book with Mary Sue-ish main character, sexist and THEIR BRAIN CELLS FREAKING DIED, well… So, now, these books just sat on my shelf, at the back row. And I’ve regretted buying these books, more than I regret buying Beautiful Disaster.

Dream Lake

I bought this because the cover was pretty, and the summary seemed like something I would love. I don’t know whether it was because I tried reading this when I didn’t have the mood to read contemporary women’s lit, or whatever, but because of that I didn’t get pass a few sentences before leaving it on my bookshelf for years. And I don’t think I’ll ever pick it up again, sadly.

Honorary mention:

Fifty Shades of Grey

I completely forgot about this at first haha But this is one book I am most sure I will never read. And not because it’s erotica. But because my friends said I’d be better off just sticking to my smut fanfictions LOL

So, that was my list. What are yours? Do we have anything in common? Comment please 🙂 Thank you for reading~

Joining in the Fun | My Life in Books Tag

Hiya~ 😀 It’s been awhile. I’ve been busy this whole week, baking and trying to write fanfictions because they’ve started a shadowhuntershipweeks on Tumblr, and it’ll be like a countdown to Lady Midnight’s release next month.

Also, before I forgot… HAPPY VALENTINE’S! haha I’ll live today vicariously through the characters from my fanfictions. Yes, I know, sad sad life.

Anyways, I was watching/listening to booktubers videos while baking and heard of this tag, so I decided to do it. So…

♥ Find a book for each of your initial

S – Saida : Summer Sisters by Judy Blume
A – Adila : Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the UniversS – Sukman : Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

Count your age along your book shelf- which book is it?

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare (is it cheating if I counted starting from my Shadowhunters shelf? haha)

Pick a book set in your city/state/country.

Adam dan Hawa (Adam and Eve) by Aisya Sofea (Well, I don’t know any English books set in my country, so I chose a Malay book.

♥ Pick a book that represents a destination you would love to travel to.

Bittersweet by Sarah Monk (I’ve always wanted to visit Cornwall, England ever since I read a few books that were either set in Cornwall, or have their characters visit Cornwall. I love the countryside, and the atmosphere in a small town. Too bad when I went on my Europe trip a few years ago, I didn’t have enough time to visit the countryside.)

♥ Pick a book that’s your favourite colour

♥ Pick a book that’s your favourite colour.

Yup. While I found my love of reading thick, English novels because of Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, but me starting to like reading is because of the Nancy Drew books. In primary school, I used to spend a lot of time with my late grandmother, and she would always bring me to the small library in neighbourhood. I would sit on the floor by the bookshelf and read Nancy Drew books for hours 🙂

♥ Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. It was so thick and the fonts were so small. It took me months to finish.

Which book in your TBR pile will give you the biggest sense of accomplishment when you finish it?

The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Since it’s February, I chose a book from my February TBR pile.

Thank you for reading~ 🙂 I’m not going to tag anyone so if anyone wants to do it, feel free to do so. 🙂
